Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerencing (GD&T)
GD&T is a Method of Dimensioning and Tolerancing as per ASME Y14.5 Standard. Olden days, all product companies followed Square Tolerancing. But all modern companies, Startups, Automotive Companies, Aerospace and Medical companies that are into manufacturing complex equipment, Production items always use GD&T as their Dimensioning and Tolerancing Standards in their Drawings.
GD&T vs Square Tolerancing
All conventional tolerancing with limit tolerances were called square tolerancing, where the tolerance zone is a square. But in GD&T methods, we call it circular tolerances, as we use diametric tolerancing zones. The main advantage of GD&T is, here we dimension any parts by considering the function of the part in the next level assembly. GD&T gives you the additional benefits of 57% more tolerance zone over Square tolerancing leading to fewer part rejections. Also, when using GD&T, the part can be inspected with functional gauges (which is very cheap) compared to square tolerancing, which requires variable guage for inspection, which is a very costly process.
GD&T also provides uniformity across all drawings and is more symbolic, making it easy for everybody to read and understand the drawing with the same intent, irrespective of their language.

GD&T is a method of Dimensioning and Tolerancing while creating a part drawing using CAD Tools like Solidworks, Catia, Creo, Solidedge, Autocad Inventor, NX CAD & AutoCAD. Drawing creation is a significant step in the detailed design of any new product development cycle. Any components can be manufactured only by referencing Part drawings, and part drawings remain a legal document communicating the design intent to the manufacturing and inspection teams. The five crucial pieces of information in any part drawing to complete it are Drawing Views, Dimensions, Tolerance values, Material specification and Finishing details. Tolerancing plays an essential role in the cost to manufacture a component. If the tolerance is liberal, then the cost to manufacture and inspect is less, but if the tolerance is very tight, then the price to manufacture and inspect a component is very high, leading to the expensive product cost. GD&T Provides the advantage of providing relaxed tolerances through the use of Modifiers, Bonus tolerance and Datum shift and simplifies part inspection with the use of functional Guages (Go & No go gauges). Altogether, GD&T Lowers the cost to manufacture and inspect a Part compared to conventional square tolerances; hence, most companies adopt only GD&T as their dimensioning and tolerancing methods. It has become mandatory for any Mechanical engineer to start their career in the Design team.

The total duration of this course is 30 Days (4 Weeks). This course is designed in such a way to help with the timings of Students and Working professionals.
